About Us

Engineered Heating & Cooling is a 2nd generation family business located in Cedar Springs, MI. It had its beginnings in 1978 when John Sedine went to work for Tom and Shirley Lowing who owned Lowing Enterprises, a HVAC/R contracting company located in Jenison, MI. The company worked on a wide variety of projects including residential equipment replacement, HUD home projects, apartments buildings, commercial, and industrial.  After earning a reputation of doing quality work that was on time, on budget, and providing systems that worked as designed; developers began asking them to work on their projects outside of Michigan.  The increase in demand for apartments, along with the growth in the Marriott Residence Inn chain, saw the company working in many states including Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Virginia.

In 1994, John and Jim, who ran the shop operations, Sedine bought the company from Tom and Shirley and changed the name to Lowing Heating & Air Conditioning.  They continued to expand their capabilities and areas of expertise.  As codes and standards had a large impact on the work they did, they became very involved in code development with the International Code Council, IAPMO, and Mechanical Inspectors Association of Michigan.  In the technical and standards arena, their membership in the Air Conditioning Contractors of America allowed them to be involved in the development of HVAC/R technical manuals and ANSI certified standards used in the industry.  This led them to be on the cutting edge of new technologies and requirements in the HVAC/R Industry.  Aaron Sedine came to work full time in 1998 after earning his mechanical engineering degree which helped the company expand its role in the design-build market.

Soon, the company had outgrown the original headquarters and moved to a new building in Walker, Michigan.  The name was changed to Engineered Heating & Cooling (EHC) at that time to reflect the more design-build focus of the business along with its involvement in LEED, Green Building, and other new emerging HVAC/R technologies in the marketplace.  They also began to provide training to the HVAC industry on ACCA design manuals, energy and mechanical codes, and software used for mechanical design, as well as consulting services to developers and other HVAC contractors.

Engineered Heating & Cooling moved to Cedar Springs, MI in the fall of 2012 in order to escape increasing traffic problems and to be closer to its employee base.  Aaron Sedine, PE became its new owner in November of 2018.  The company outgrew that facility and built a new 20,000 sq.ft. building, larger, more functional and 2 miles east of the old location

Absolutely top notch customer service and workmanship. The only company I’ll call for repair or install for the rentals I oversee or my own needs. Steve Zagman has installed multiple A/C units for me and I have absolutely no complaints, I had to get Steve to correct another companies work that was a complete disaster install , he had is running and cleaned up the mess the other company did. You can’t go wrong with Engineered.

My husband and I are coming up on a year after having our Heat Pump installed. This was not only the most cost effective solution, Engineered offered the best customer service. I highly recommend their services.

Tip: Engineered does not have an electrician on staff. If you need electrical work with your new heating solution, we used Swanson Electrical. They were the most affordable and reliable.

Made an appointment for more than a week out. I called the day before to confirm and was told they could not come out and maybe could get to me in 2 weeks. So when we're they going to call me to notify of canceling appointment and reschedule? Never.

Working with Engineered Heating and Cooling was easy and painless. A tech was able to come out quickly and confirm a prior (different company's) conclusion that our furnace needed replacing. The company recommended a new unit and provided an estimate, and explained why they were recommending that unit, along with the recommended optional air purifier. Once we approved the estimate, the installation was scheduled quickly (less than a week). The techs showed up on time, installed the new furnace, explained everything to us, and hauled the old one away. EHC took care of registering the new furnace for the warranty, a few weeks after the install. On top of that, they were aware of a potential rebate and worked with the furnace manufacturer to get us qualified for that rebate, which we really appreciate.

Engineered Heating and Cooling cleaned the ducts and tuned up our furnace in our new house. We chose them in part because we wanted a company that would actually brush out the ducts well, and we are really happy with how thoroughly they cleaned our ducts. They were very professional and honest. I appreciated their communication, and it was very easy to pay my bill online. I would definitely recommend them.

very professional. I was very impressed from the initial quote to the installation. Tim and his crew are excellent. I chose them after getting several estimates from other hvac companies. My uncle highly recommended them. Now I also very highly recommend them. Excellent communication and hard workers. I will definitely share their number with friends and family for any hvac work they may need.
